Axial Biotech Announces Mike McCaffrey, Distinguished Orthopaedic Executive, Joins Board of Directors
SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 5 -- Axial Biotech is proud to announce
that Mike McCaffrey, former Chairman of DePuy Spine, is joining its Board of
Directors. Axial Biotech is revolutionizing spine care by developing
molecular diagnostics and motion preserving technologies. Mr. McCaffrey joins
Axial at an exciting time as the Company is making significant progress on its
first product: a molecular diagnostic test for adolescent idiopathic
scoliosis.
Mr. McCaffrey's impressive orthopaedic industry career has spanned more
than two decades. Mr. McCaffrey was instrumental in the development and
expansion of four of DePuy's five operating companies and at varying times was
responsible for the management of DePuy, Inc., DePuy Spine, DePuy Trauma and
DePuy Development Corporation. He brings a depth of experience from his
distinguished career in medical technology as an individual that worked with
leading clinicians and researchers to develop and market innovative solutions
for orthopaedics and spine.
During his fifteen-year career at DePuy, Mr. McCaffrey started and later
became Chairman of DePuy Spine, one of the fastest growing companies in the
medical device and diagnostics sector. Under Mr. McCaffrey's leadership,
DePuy Spine became known throughout the medical world for its development of
novel products to treat a wide range of spine disorders and for advancing the
knowledge of spinal pathologies for patients and professionals alike. Highly
respected in the orthopaedic industry, Mr. McCaffrey was the first layman to
be elected to the Board of Directors of the Orthopaedic Research and Education
Foundation.
"After helping found one of the largest spine companies in the world, I am
thrilled to be involved with Axial Biotech. Their first product has the
potential to completely change the way we diagnose and treat scoliosis, and
that is very exciting. I think they are one of the most innovative companies
in the spine market today," said Mr. McCaffrey. Equally enthused with the
addition of Mr. McCaffrey to the Axial Board, Axial Founder, President and
CEO, John M. Climaco, said: "As we enter our next stage of development and
look forward to commercializing our first product, having a true industry
leader like Mike McCaffrey on our board is invaluable."
